PhantomBuster alternative pages, $5k with no ads, and a Rebrandly outreach flow
Day 4 of 100 days of growth hacking. I spent the morning on the Growth-Hacking.io site, then walked the growth plan. Just under $5,000 in, no marketing. The website had to be a place I could send people before I turned the taps on.
Illustrations that back the copy, plus a page per feature
I am not a designer. I enjoy it, and I am not a professional. What I have learned is that an illustration should back the copy. I do not need a beautiful isometric drawing. If it explains the words in a visual way, it works.
I did that this morning on localhost. Home, then LinkedIn Connect, then LinkedIn Messenger. Each feature now has its own page you can click through to.
A PhantomBuster alternative page and a separate lifetime deal page
I am not an SEO specialist. Automation is the job. I still shipped a competitive page: number one alternative to PhantomBuster. Ads first. Once those have run, the page starts to show in search. I have friends who are actually good at SEO after that.
The lifetime deal page has different copy so we do not get pulled for duplicate content. Custom flows, follow-ups, lead integrations, a drag-and-drop builder. That is the page I will run ads on when someone Googles a lifetime deal or a PhantomBuster lifetime deal. It should convert.
Just under $5k, £316 MRR, 1.46% conversion
I will not open the customer list. Privacy, and I assume competitors watch these videos.
Total revenue is just under $5,000. I have not done any marketing. I have been fixing the website. Most of that money is lifetime deals. We are not taking profit. It goes back into the product. We are hiring a backend developer.
Monthly recurring is £316 — about $390–400. Roughly 80% of signups take the lifetime deal. My co-founder and I have other income, so we do not need to pull cash out. That is the position I want: reinvest, build the tool.
The landing page is at 1.46%. That is up about 40–60% versus two days ago. There are still bugs that hurt conversion. Two percent is the base I want before I talk about scaling. Then I keep improving on top of that.
LinkedIn searches, a video instead of a pitch
The marketing strategy is LinkedIn searches. The tool is for people already in LinkedIn lead generation who want more flexibility than
LinkedHelper. I will not send a direct pitch. I will send a video I made that shows how easy it is to build their own LinkedIn bot.
Other lists: newly registered websites that need marketing; sites that already have a LinkedIn Follow button; innovative startups and SaaS companies. Show them they can reach their competitors with the same stack.
Snov, then Hunter, then the site, then Rebrandly and Mautic
Find an email. Snov.io first because it is cheap. Then
Hunter. Then scrape the website. Then the contact form. Then live chat if they have it. Option one, then two, then three, then four.
After that I create a Rebrandly link. Query params can carry a first name. Rebrandly hides them behind a domain, so the personalization does not look bolted on.
Notifia can read that and show a notification on the Growth Hacking Diario site — "90 days free Nathan" if that is what I put in the URL.
The short link then goes into Mautic. Mautic is open-source email automation. You host it yourself. Any email we send, any link they click, they get a popup with their first name. Same hack from LinkedIn and from email.
If we find an email we still search for a LinkedIn profile. If LinkedIn is missing we pull the company's employees by keyword: marketer, CEO, growth hacker, head of digital. If we have LinkedIn and no email: Rebrandly link, sync back to Airtable, a basic follow-up sequence with that same branded link attached.
A lot of this is already sketched. I will build the sequence from scratch on camera as onboarding for growth-hacking.io — YouTube content, marketing, and user onboarding in one pass. A seven-day or fourteen-day campaign. Three jobs, one build.
A unique image per lead, then ads on PhantomBuster keywords
A module just landed on Integromat that does what
Lemlist does with custom images. I do not like Lemlist deliverability, so I would rather keep my own flow and plug this in. CSS over a screenshot of their URL. I will write a small screenshot script rather than burn their credits. Price at something like 30k sends a month was about $150. I will start smaller and look at the results, or we build it ourselves. It sits next to the Rebrandly step: a unique image for each person.
I already have a small Google Ads campaign on competitor keywords. Two conversions, no tracking. That is bad practice. Tracking is on now. One ad set. I will spend a day on it rather than scale yet.
Keywords: PhantomBuster LTD, PhantomBuster alternative, PhantomBuster reviews, PhantomBuster lifetime deal, and the generic brand. Instagram is a negative keyword. That is the process: structure, tracking, then read what comes back.
Connection requests in 15–22 seconds, not 1:15
The test environment is not public. Fair tests, proxy and no proxy. My average PhantomBuster request is about one minute 15 seconds. Ours, no proxy, is 15–22 seconds. About a seven-second spread from random delays and mouse movement so it looks human. The connection request I ran on camera was about 18 seconds.
A few accounts only. If tests stay clean it should be on the platform in two or three days. Other modules are being optimized too. Tomorrow I start the outreach automation I outlined. I have a system that already maintains the old flows. Building one from scratch has been rare. I will livestream it if people want to build alongside.
A Slack community for retention, 1,390 subscribers for acquisition
We have a small Slack channel. Users help each other. Not only automations — same interests. I did not set it up as an experiment. For a subscription business, a community people actually like is a retention lever. Most people in there are on a lifetime deal anyway, so I am not tracking churn. Everyone in there came from this
YouTube channel.
1,390 subscribers. $4,000–$5,000 of sales this month from recording what I am building. Three more to 1,400. Personal branding is an acquisition channel even at that size.
Whether Slack is the right home is a separate question. Discourse is open-source. Host it yourself. Airtable's customer support community is built on it. Public threads rank in
Google — one I looked at had about 1,200 views. RAM Growth Hacking, a French community, is the same stack.
The clever version is to keep Slack and sync every post and reply out to a public forum so search can pick it up. Advanced automation. You have to watch personal information. This Slack is already a public community, so it is less of a problem.
That is day four. Day five is the automation build.

hey guys today is day three of a hundred days of growth hacking so I'm just going to go through the latest updates I've pushed so as I said this mainly been on and I took making website improvement so that we're off to a good good starting point when it comes to actually growing our business so I'll just show you a few of the updates that I've done and after that like we can actually walk through like the growth plan and some interesting growth hacks that I've that I've planned to set up so let me just fire up this website so yeah like I've set up so likely I've done some design this morning like it
was nice to do something a bit different so and I do I enjoy design so that was that was good it's just feeding here so CDN, no, the index is cool and so if we come in to localhost so this is the home page like I made a few about improvements but basically if we come through and go on to like LinkedIn connect nothing to internet coming to LinkedIn Messenger okay so like for example here's and like it just an illustration like I'm not a designer I try to be I'm not a professional designer but essentially just what I've learned like illustrations should basically like backup your your copy so I'm not actually so worried
about having like a really beautiful like isometric 3D illustration or something really the as long as it is just explaining what you're trying to say in words in a visual way they work like really well so I made this morning like end result I'm quite happy with I made individual pages of each of our features that you can go and click through to I've also made some competitive pages so we have that alternative PhantomBuster turn the tips is it remember my URLs incorrect spelling that's why so here like you know again I'm also not an SEO specialist my expertise is in like automation but you know number one alternative to PhantomBuster and we just like
really I'm gonna run this on ads to start off with and then once that's done once I've run some ads like you know it's going to start to appear in search results and then I've got some friends who were like who are really good with SEO and then I've also set up a page for the lifetime deal so again it's got different copies we don't get pulled up on duplicate content so it's great engage so little illustration there that I made before going more in-depth into the messaging just showing you can build out your own custom flows like follow-ups create lead integrations drag-and-drop builder and this page I'm going to be running some ads on
for example of someone Google's an Appsumo lifetime or like PhantomBuster lifetime to the do you know that page is going to convert really well so yeah and again just an in the interest of openness and transparency let's go over some like analytics in terms of where we are at now so I can't go into the customers just for like data privacy obviously I don't share all of our customers are not I'm sure there are competitors you watch my videos but as well like you know I completely respect customers privacy so if we come into dashboard so total revenue bearing in so just under $5,000 which is like completely bearing in mind I haven't done any
marketing at all I've just been optimizing the website that's a that's a nice starting point and like most of that has come from our lifetime deals so lifetime deals we're not taking any profit to be honest like any money that comes in we're actually just reinvesting back into the product so we're currently hiring a back-end developer so this money is just gonna be literally invested straight back into into various different tools like within the platform I've got a ton of ideas and if we go into billing so monthly recurring revenue is currently at like 316 GBP so what's in USD is gonna be about 400 USD 390 yeah so we have that in like monthly
revenue and we're selling like probably 80% of the signups that we have are off for the lifetime deal which is really cool and it just gives us some money to ya to invest like and back back into the company both like co-founder and I like we have other income sources and revenue streams and so we don't actually need to pull the money out the business so we're in a really nice position and you know reinvesting that money back into the product it's gonna build a better tool for everyone landing page results is now like one point four six percent conversion rate so we're slowly getting there now that I've like there are still bugs on
the website that I'm working to fix are going to be having a negative effect on the conversion rate but you know increased by like forty sixty percent compared to two days ago it's like a nice jump once you're at the 2% mark then like we're a it's just like a base level it's a nice level to work for and we can start looking at like scaling the business and like I'll constantly be looking looking to improve on on top of that so yeah aside from like the illustrations I'll just go into like a my reports this is a automation that I've like written so I think what I'll also do is actually pull in from
right search results the general marketing strategy as well is going to be LinkedIn searches so another like some other good leads to that's actually something straight down into there so so one I think that our tool is like really useful for like anyone who's like in within like the LinkedIn lead generation space and they're looking for something with a lot more flexibility and a lot more scalable than using I don't know like LinkedHelper or something like that so I want to do an outreach campaign to everyone who has like you know LinkedIn lead generation specialist or something like that and I'm not going to do a direct pitch I'm actually gonna send them a video
that I've made showing them how easy it is for them to build their own LinkedIn bot so we're gonna start off of that and then I've also planned to extract like newly registered websites for them to get started with marketing and also we've built with I have a list of everyone who has a LinkedIn Follow button and so on on their websites that's quite an easy thing to do as well as going to like innovative startup side SAS companies and showing them that they can build a tool to reach out to their competitors that quite easily so it's essentially just gonna be sink down here we're gonna find an email for them and starts off
with Snov because it's cheap if these two should actually switch around any mail find it then hunter then scrape the website and see if we can find an email so it's going to try option one if that doesn't work option two option three option 4 and if they have a website contact form or automate sending a submission there they have live chat will contact them there that is and sync down to create Rebrandly link and the reason I use Rebrandly is that we can do things like this so if we do first name equals I hope this campaign is still on offer Isis is gonna embarrass me and so like Notifia offers like personalization within
the widgets I think I've actually got I think I've closed this before so it's remembered in my history but it means that we can add like a layer of personalization in so that when someone clicks through onto the Growth Hacking Diario website we can present them with a notification that shows their first name which i think is so yeah let me just get this up so it means that we can we can add a layer of personalization into their outreach so like you can do things like this like you know that's automatically added the homepage of the website that I input in the URL on here you can see it says ninety days free Nathan
because that's what I've added in the URL so with us using Rebrandly it means that we can hide that so people can't see that their first name when website is actually attached to a domain and it makes the personalization just look like for it really smart so it's just a little like engagement hack I guess helps increase conversion rates particularly from LinkedIn and also from email so by grating Rebrandly link we then send them over to Mautic for anyone who doesn't know Mautic is an email automation platform it's open source and free to you if you just have to set up yourself and it means in any emails that we send out any links they
click on they're going to receive a pop-up that has their first name on it so I think that's like a really cool personalization hack and it definitely helps with conversion rates so this is where it gets a little bit complicated so that's the email flow so they'll be added in down there and even if we find an email they will still be sent to search for a LinkedIn profile LinkedIn found it will go down here if LinkedIn isn't found we put them down another flow and we extract all the company's employees based on their keywords who are interesting like marketer ceos growth hackers like head of digital things like that again then we also on
the LinkedIn flow so if we haven't found an email but we have founded LinkedIn create Rebrandly link sink back over to Airtable sink an external question just basic follow up sequence and again that will have the Rebrandly link attached here so that is just like a flow that I've sort of outline and I have quite a lot of this set out but in fact I think what I'll do is I'm gonna kill two birds with one stone and I am going to alongside with making onboarding videos for growth-hacking.io for the tool itself I'm gonna build the sequence from scratch it will give me some YouTube content and everyone can sort of learn how how everything
happens I can also use it as marketing content and I can also use it as onboarding content for our users so I'm going to break down the flow into smaller chunks and we can send it over like you know a seven day or fourteen day like onboarding campaign so that's a really smart way for me to to do things so it's going to take a little longer but I'm happy happy to do that 15 you guys and yeah like I said it kills killer kills and kills two birds with one stone free Birds even and free tasks I want to do will be solved by doing that so that will be like in in the
upcoming content and then there's just like some other things I found that I think I will add into our automation sequence so where have I put that tab okay I found this today this is just being released on Integromat and I really like this too also in fact I think I'm actually going to release the world releases within like growth hacking essentially that's what I'm going to do any tool that I use in my workflow I want to release under our own tool so what this will do is if you're familiar with Lemlist where they allow you to create like custom images and attach them to emails this is going to allow you to do
that as well and you know I don't like using like Lemlist I get bad deliverability rate so I'm going to use my own custom flow and this will plug into it as well they have an Integromat plug-in I can provide them with with CSS and what we will do is we will take a it would actually be over here but we've taken like website screenshot I think okay they haven't gone screenshot okay we can make our own script for doing it but yet create a screenshot of a URL I don't want to use up loads of credits here by using their tools for I'll make like a little script for it and then what we
would do is we would actually just write our own CSS if we go into like demo so like yeah it's going to return us an image like okay here it says hello world but we can actually like we can put this on top of someone's website so we can like you can add like a layer of personalization so I think that's like a really really interesting like personalization hack that I'm going to implement within within this automation so somewhere down here alongside create Rebrandly link there's going to be another stage which is meant to be like create a unique image for for each individual user so it's just something that I found today like pricing
how much outreach we're going to do maybe like 30k per month 150 dollars I'm sure if we ask for a discount we would get something or we can pretend like you know this isn't actually that complex of a tool to build so yeah maybe we could just build out ourselves let's see but for now what I usually do is start off on like a smaller planning and see that what the results are like so that's a nice little hack that I've that I plan on implementing within our flow what else have we done today so yeah I mean I'm gonna set up like a just a little I've got a little ads campaign running actually
so I can just go through that it hasn't got any tracking on it but I can tell you that we've had two conversions but it's not good practice to start running ads without tracking I was just playing around but I have correctly set up tracking now so it's going to into this campaign and it's just bidding on like competitors keywords and I can actually scale this campaign out even further but I'm just going to leave leave it running now we have track and going and we can see what the what the results are like so under competitors it great is okay I've only got one ad set running so we'll actually spend like a day
optimizing that and we're just targeting various different competitors so I'll just show you the keyword structure that I'm using hope if that spoke correctly don't crash live yeah so keywords so yeah these are the various keywords we have PhantomBuster Ltd PhantomBuster alternative PhantomBuster reviews PhantomBuster lifetime deal PhantomBuster lifetime PhantomBuster alternative and just generic PhantomBuster so yeah now that we've got tracking in place we can see what what the results actually come back on for that most of the traffic that we're getting is for yet there's a negative keyword because we're not interested in Instagram so yeah and and that is just actually my general process for um for optimizing campaigns PhantomBuster tutorial yeah moans oh
yeah so that's um that's what we've done today spent a few hours working on this today I had a day off yesterday tomorrow I will start building out the the automation that I I mentioned our another update as well actually is we have so this is our like testing environment so it's not pushed you out I'm just running some tests before we before we make it publicly available but I'll just show you like the improvements that we've actually made so just like you know for anyone who's used PhantomBuster like I've tracked this my average time for running a request in PhantomBuster is about one minute and 15 seconds and I've done like fair test so
using that no proxy using a proxy this is currently not using a proxy and the average response time we're getting is between like 15 to 22 seconds so there's like I sort of said like you saw how quickly that just run there's like a seven-day fair a seven second a seven second variable and and that's based on there's like random time delays and to help like mimic human behavior in this IDE random mouse movement so we're we're gonna we working on improving the output here that's why it's not released publicly epic like as you saw I don't know how long that was maybe like 18 seconds so we've like massively reduced the amount of time
that it takes to just to send a connection request so like we're we're really happy happy with that so I am just testing it on like a few accounts currently and we'll release it publicly like as long as all testing goes fine and there's no issues and you can expect to see that up on the platform in probably like two two or three days we're also working on a few other like modules optimizing if you have a modules but yeah I'll absolutely keep everyone today on what's happening that end this automation we will start building out tomorrow I can also use this as the template in a lot of other places as well so yeah
I'm interesting like it's been a while since I've since I've like built something from scratch really it's just been like a lot of maintenance of or not even a lot of maintenance just maintenance of my existing flows I have a system that actually takes care of it there's not that much for me to do like it's been a while since I've like just started from scratch building everything and I'm sure that we can put a lot of improvements in there yeah I'm happy to livestream that as well like if people want to tune in and like build an automation like alongside me that would be really cool yeah other than that I hope everyone's safe
with the whole coronavirus situation that we have going on yeah as always thank you very much for watching any questions leave them in the comments and ah one other thing I will mention actually is I've really enjoyed this I can't remember if I've mentioned this before actually we've built like a like Slack channel that I've like really enjoyed really enjoyed using and we have actually built up like a bit of a community and now like users are sort of helping themselves that there's sort of conversations and stuff going on like you know not even just talking about automations in general like everyone here is quite similar interests so it's been really cool to to build
this out and see like customer support in each other so that's this actually pretty good even like retention strategy you know like it was purely by coincidence you know we actually wanted to build like a cool like Slack channel and like community for this product however I think that is actually by by doing this we've we've got a really good and it is very small community but like this it's just quite active and I really like it think that in like a subscription business if you are able to do that to build out a community that people like being a part of and they receive value from this is far less likely that someone's going
to like cancel a subscription so on top of delivering value through your product if you can make a community as well that comes it's like a byproduct of being a member of your platform it should really help with retention rates you know I'm not tracking any of this like I've not got experiments running most people here on a lifetime deal anyway so we haven't got to worry about like retention or anything like that you know most of the most people here in fact everyone here is a watcher of my YouTube channel which is is really cool and in fact you know that's another thing I should have mentioned before I finish I think that personal
branding now has to be like one of a really powerful acquisition channel for growing the business so I haven't even got a large audience I have what a thousand one thousand three hundred subscribers I think last I checked so by but with me just recording videos of things that I'm doing like you know it's able to generate we've done like yeah four thousand dollars was the icon and what I said exactly four thousand to five thousand dollars in sales this month yeah 1390 subscribers so that is like that's really good rate up free more subscribers to go until 1400 I've never asked this before but and please subscribe to get me above that that's 1,400
mark if you if you do like the video some content yeah so anyway yeah just I think building the community is a good acquisition channel whether Slack is the best community or that for that or not it's another discussion to have entirely there's a tool called discourse I've always just went funny there this tool called discourse that allows you to build like forums it's actually open source so ignore that price and you can set it up yourself and it's completely free if you look up Airtable customer support they this is actually built on top of discourse so it's completely free and it's just like a foreign like your community maybe that's the wrong thing maybe
they've just updated the style of the community Airtable sorry is built is built on top of the discourse and what you find is because all of these conversations are public they start to rank really well in Google for example this is all community driven and they've got like 1200 views from it so that that can be another way to to grow to grow a business but currently we have our slack channel and there's a lot of that questions and stuff and people are really active and it's really cool but if I wanted to be really clever you could actually turn the slack channel into like a public forum and even have it all hosted in
slack and whenever someone posts a post here post it on to a forum so it's publicly available and it will get picked up and searched and whenever someone replies sync it over to that conversation so we're now talking about pretty advanced automation and you do have to be careful if there's like personal information shared here which I think doesn't happen because because everything here is like this is a public community like that that would be one idea so like whether slack is the best channel to do it or if you should make a forum like this for example there's also a website called ramgrowthhacking.fr I believe it's a French growth hacking community yeah and they're
also built on discourse and they get a lot of views which is quite interesting in fact growth hacking tools yeah we should get a lot of traffic from from this for Notifia which is how I know about it but anyway yeah alright I'll cut the video off here and stop like rambling on about other related topics or else yeah as always thank you for watching like tomorrow I'll be be back with day number saw what Ariel lost track already okay so this is day number four so tomorrow will be no this is day number yeah this is day number four so tomorrow we'll be back with with day number five yeah thank you very much
for watching and have a great day [Music]
